OH, THE SULTRY SUMMER DAYS!
Now is the time to be very concerned about your pets - especially those that are kept outside. Remember-they already have a body temperature of 101 degrees - and a fur coat on top of it...so, it is absolutely imperative that they continually have a good, clean water supply and ample shade...a fan would be a wonderful addition for those days where there's not a breath of air - of course it would need to be an outdoor fan, or be protected from the weather...and the cord kept safely away from chewers. Use common sense!
Those of you who walk your dogs, restrict that to early morning and after the sun is low...the pavement is incredibly HOT - even the sidewalk - and, although they have tough pads, they can be burned. So - be conscious of that. If you feel like you need to take your dog to festivals where they have to walk for hours and hours...maybe not such a good idea. Remember - they are already in fur, and they keep a constant body temp of over 100 degrees. So - don't run with your dog when the heat index is over about 80; never in the heat of the day; and be conscious of the hot pavement.
REMEMBER - WATER AND LOTS OF SHADE....ALWAYS!
